Survey Studio is a free web app from AAJ to design and preview surveys in your browser, with no signup and no install. Build multiple-choice, rating, and open-text questions, preview what respondents would see, and answer the planning question: how many responses do I need? It does not collect responses, so it shows no results. Your surveys are saved in this browser only and are not sent to AAJ.

How to create a survey

  1. Add questions. Open Survey Studio, give your survey a title, and add questions — multiple choice, checkboxes, rating, or text.
  2. Preview. Use Preview to see what respondents would see and check the flow. Nothing typed in Preview is saved.
  3. Refine. Check question wording, order and required fields until the survey reads cleanly. The survey is saved in this browser as you go.
  4. Work out how many responses you need. Open Responses needed, enter the margin of error you can accept and, if you know them, the people you can reach and your response rate. It returns the completes and invites needed, using the sampling engine from AAJ's customer-survey-design agent skill.
  5. Field it in a tool that collects responses. Survey Studio designs and previews; it does not collect responses. Copy the questions as text from the Share step into the form or survey tool you use to send it.

Is Survey Studio free?

Yes. Survey Studio is a free tool from AAJ to design and preview a survey and to work out how many responses it needs. No signup. Your surveys are saved in this browser only and are not sent to AAJ.

Does Survey Studio collect responses?

No. It designs and previews surveys; it has no response database, so it cannot send a survey, collect answers or show results. When the design is ready, copy the questions into the form or survey tool you use to send it.

How many responses do I need?

It depends on the margin of error you can accept. Survey Studio's Responses needed step works it out with the sampling engine from AAJ's customer-survey-design agent skill: for example, ±5 points at 95% confidence needs 385 completes from a large audience, or 323 if you can reach only 2,000 people. Add your response rate to see how many invites that takes.

How many questions can I add?

There is no fixed limit. In AAJ's view, a survey should ask only what the decision behind it needs; every extra question costs completes.

How do I share a survey?

Use the link button under the tool to share the design with a colleague: it carries the questions, never anything typed in Preview, and opens as a copy in their browser. To send it to respondents, copy the questions into a tool that collects responses.

What is a good survey response rate?

It varies by channel and audience, and AAJ publishes no benchmark for it. In AAJ's view, an in-product or post-interaction prompt does best, email to an engaged list next, a cold list well below that. Keep surveys short and the ask specific, and use your own past sends as the estimate.
