Who the Board Marketing Slide Pack is for

I wrote this for founders and heads of marketing who have to explain marketing to a board every quarter. Most marketing board slides I review are activity reports: campaigns launched, posts published, events attended. The board can't act on any of it, so the conversation drifts to whatever number looks worst.

This pack is built the other way round. Each slide's title is its conclusion, every number sits next to its plan or last quarter, and the pack ends with the decisions and introductions you need. The appendix fixes the definitions, so a board member who compares portfolio companies reads your CAC the way you calculate it.

It will not make a bad quarter look good. It makes a quarter, good or bad, easy to discuss in the time the board gives you.

Pull the numbers together with the Marketing KPI Board Report, work out CAC and payback with the Unit Economics Calculator, and check test results with the A/B Test Significance Calculator. Or Run it in your agent.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should a marketing board update include?

The answer first: the number marketing is accountable for against plan, the outcome it feeds, and one efficiency measure. Then the funnel, what the money returned, what worked and what you stopped, what you learned from tests, next quarter's number and bets, your asks, and the risks with their early signals. Definitions go in an appendix.

How many slides should a board marketing update be?

As few as the discussion needs. The pack has twelve so you can choose: keep the ones that carry a decision or a conversation, and move the rest to the appendix or the pre-read.

Where do the benchmark figures on the efficiency slide come from?

The slide shows one reference point, LTV:CAC above 3 and CAC recovered within 12 months, with its source, David Skok's SaaS metrics writing. It is labelled as a rule of thumb for a conversation, not a standard. Every other figure in the pack is an invented example for you to replace.

Is the template free, and what format is it?

Free, in exchange for an email address. It is a PowerPoint .pptx with native, editable charts and speaker notes on every slide, and it opens in PowerPoint, Google Slides and Keynote.
